Meet Jake. Technical Consultant at Greystone

Since 1999 Greystone has been providing IT support to SME’s across the North West.  We sat down with Jake Mundy Technical Consultant who joined in 2008 to get an insight into his role and what it’s like to work at Greystone.

GT: So, what do you enjoy about working at Greystone?

JM: After graduating from University with a diploma in Computer Science, I joined IBM in an IT Support role.  After 3 years there, I felt I needed a new challenge to develop my skills and went to work at Greystone.  That was 13 years ago, and I am still here! I would say it’s the ethos and company culture that attracts people to work here and the commitment to personal development that makes them want to stay.

My role is extremely varied working across multiple client types, sites and sizes, which means no two days are the same.  There are two parts to my role: the maintenance of incumbent systems at client sites and the management and delivery of new projects. I love that I can get involved in deploying new technology and systems to help our clients grow.

GT: Any particular projects you have enjoyed working on?

JM: I am currently working on a 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication) project for one of our clients.  This is a hot topic right now and has been a great project to work on.  I get to deploy a solution that I have designed and developed allowing our clients to ensure tighter security for their customers.

Another project that stands out for me is for a client we recently brought onboard.  Their IT systems had been somewhat neglected and they had suffered a ransomware attack leaving them in a vulnerable position.  For the last 4 months my team and I have been working to bring them back in to order, seeing a dramatic decrease in helpdesk calls and outstanding actions.  It’s extremely satisfying to reflect on where they were and where they are now.

GT: What keeps you happy outside of work? 

JM: I don’t have a huge amount of spare time given I have a young daughter but when I do get the chance, I’ll relax watching 80 – 90’s action movies and playing video games with Hades being my current favourite.  Now that the weather is looking better, I am hoping to get out into the countryside on my mountain bike as well as having friends over to test out my new BBQ. If they are lucky, I may dust off my old music decks – and pretend to rave like we used to!
