Why now is the time for your business to get Cyber Essentials

3 March 2021 /Posted byBen McDougall

We all know that cyber-attacks are growing and are an increasing threat to businesses. Some big brands as well as schools, councils, airlines and banks, have all been subject to cyber-attacks over the last few years and no business is safe from being targeted.

As well as having robust IT security in place across your business, you can also strengthen your online protection by getting Cyber Essentials Accredited.

What is Cyber Essentials?

Cyber Essentials is a Government-backed and industry-supported scheme that helps businesses protect themselves against the growing threat of cyber-attacks. It is also extremely helpful to new businesses as it provides a clear statement of the basic systems a business should have in place to protect themselves.

Cyber Essentials is the UK Government’s solution to create safer online spaces for all businesses, whatever their size or sector. It has been developed and is operated by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and therefore is the best first step to provide a more secure online presence and ensure your business is protected against around 80% of the most common cyber-attacks.

If your business is data heavy, and most businesses are these days, gaining a Cyber Essentials certificate shows that your business is trustworthy and secure when it comes to cyber security.

The certificate is focussed on clear guidance for basic IT security measures that a business can implement at a low cost, as well as offering a more advanced option.

Cyber Essentials – is a foundation level certificate and outlines the basic controls a business should have in place to minimise the most common cyber-attacks.

Cyber Essentials Plus – is the highest level of certification and, as the name alludes to, is a more rigorous test of an organisation’s cyber security systems and will require experts to carry out vulnerability tests against your IT systems.

At Greystone, we can help, implement, and advise on all aspects of cyber-security to ensure your business has the best practices in place to make it safe and secure online.
